Skaneateles Falls, NY - Welch Allyn Lighting Products, the premier manufacturer of aircraft halogen reading lamps, has introduced a long-life replacement halogen reading lamp for Airbus aircraft. The new lamp's lifetime is over 2.5 times as long as the current equipment, significantly lowering cost of ownership and annual spend for maintenance.

"We're excited to offer Airbus owners a high-performance halogen reading lamp that can save them thousands of dollars annually," said Doug Rutan, Welch Allyn marketing manager. "The new lamp lifetime is rated at 5100 hours, versus 2000 hours for the original part. Because it is so costly to change out failed reading lamps, our estimate is if you've got a fleet of 10 aircraft, each with 125 seats, it's a savings of over $28,000 over the lifetime of the lamps."

The new Welch Allyn lamp, part number 998502-18, is a replacement for 8GH005678-06. It is FAA-PMA approved for Airbus models A319, A320, A321, A330 and A340. In addition to long life, the new lamp features the high-brightness, high-quality output that is a signature of Welch Allyn products.

Welch Allyn will offer the new replacement lamps through LaSalle Electric Supply Company, the world's foremost distributor of aircraft lamps.

"At the Airline Purchasing Expo, there will be a computer available at the LaSalle booth that is equipped with a financial analysis model," said Rutan. "So companies that own Airbus aircraft can come by and get a custom-printed report for their particular fleet. We're confident they'll be impressed with the potential savings."
