PenWand Systems

PenWand Systems are fully PC/WINDOWS compatible. The Light Pen function is compatible with VGA/SVGA monitors and resolutions. The user may choose either and internal or external Light Pen Interface. Light Pen driver software is available for DOS, WIN 3.X, WIN 95/98, WIN NT and OS/2.

The Barcode Scanner is a high resolution, contact scanner. The Decoder Wedge recognizes and automatically decodes all standard Barcodes, and provides a "good read" beep. Barcode data output is standard keyboard format. A custom programming guide is provided.

PenWand: The PenWand is a single hand-held instrument providing both a CRT Light Pen and a Barcode Scanner function to the user. The PenWand cable connects to the Decoder Wedge.

Decoder Wedge: The Decoder Wedge decodes scanned Barcode lables and provides keyboard characters, wedged into the PC keyboard port with keyboard data. CRT Light Pen signals pass-through the Decoder Wedge and is cabled to the Light Pen Interface.

CRT Light Pen Interface: The PenWand is available with either an Internal ISA Bus Interface or an External RS232 Interface. The Light Pen signals, via the Decoder together with video synchronization signals are connected to the interface. Video sync signals are obtained by induction from the monitor (System 30) or by hard wire from the sync adapter cable (System2, 10). Pen position and button press data are processed in the Interface Unit and formatted for communication to the host.

Power: The System 2, ISA Bus Interface, draws power from the Bus. The System 10, External Serial RS232 Interface, is provided with an external DC power supply powered from the AC line. The System 30 draws its minimal power from the RS232 Port.

Connection to the Host: Connection to the host and installation of the Light Pen software driver is fully documented by provided user manuals.
