Pulse announced today a new series of 10/100 local area networking (LAN) modules that support IP

Capable of Power Feeding Up to 350 mA onto Standard LAN Cabling

Pulse announced today a new series of 10/100 local area networking (LAN) modules that support IP (Internet Protocol) telephony. Pulse designed these new 10/100 components for the emerging Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) market to facilitate LAN-powered IP phones. This technology will eliminate the AC power needed for IP telephones and other low-power Ethernet devices.

Capable of feeding up to 350mA onto standard LAN cabling, the two dual-port modules allow for enough power to drive many different applications over LAN cabling, such as IP phones, remote sensors, building thermostats, and wireless LAN access points, according to Pulse product line manager Dave Richkas.

Dataquest forecasts the market for enterprise IP phones will grow to 9.2 million in 2004, up from 21,000 in 1998*. "Pulse is committed to being the leader in this new market. We're excited to be working with the top companies in this industry to bring the next phase in enterprise IP telephony to market," said Richkas.

Technical Information: Currently, two part numbers are available in the series. The H2005A, designed for switch applications, provides maximum EMI surpression while facilitating power feed and return on LAN cabling. The H2006A is a more compact module for space-restrictive applications such as IP phones. Each IEEE 802.3-compliant part is housed in an IC grade, transfer-molded package, suitable for convection and infrared reflow soldering at temperatures up to 235° C. The parts utilize Pulse's patented Interlockbase construction technique to provide more uniform positioning of coils and the interconnections between the wires and the leads. This construction method significantly reduces the stresses associated with the handling of coils during assembly and transfer-molding encapsulation, increasing quality and reliability of the components.

Pricing and Availability: Pulse's new LAN magnetics are currently available in tube(s) or Tape & Reel packaging and are compatible with most high-speed Pick-and-Place assembly equipment. Details are listed in data sheet H327. The H2005A is priced at $3.10 each and the H2006A is priced at $2.90 each in quantities of 10,000. Contact Pulse directly for higher-volume pricing.
