Kawasaki LSI, U.S.A.L5KUSB221 uses USB specification 2.0, takes advantage of 100 BaseT network performance and converts USB 2.0 to Ethernet which is 10 times faster than traditional USB to Ethernet controllers based on version USB 1.0/1.1. Its MII physical layer interface allows for low- cost LAN and HAN (home area network) designs to be incorporated in portable equipment.

The device has a highly integrated 16-bit RISC CPU, mask ROM and RAM buffer, clock generator, Ethernet interface, UART, IRQ, watchdog timer, serial interface and external memory and SPORT interfaces.

The internal processor has been designed to enable remote network device interface specifications (NDIS) that are compatible with current and next- generation operating systems. Its serial interface engine (SIE) is compatible with all USB specifications. Although designed specifically for USB 2.0 to 100 base-T networking, the device is also legacy compatible with 1.1 interface connections and compatible with 10 base-T Ethernet networking.
