AVX offers the SK and SV Series radial leaded capacitors as low equivalent series resistance (ESR) solutions for a variety of power supply challenges. Designed to support the popular SupraCap family of SMPS capacitors, the SK Series replaces tantalum or aluminum electrolytic metal cans in many high switching frequencies power supplies, often at a lower cost. The SV Series offers designers of power supplies alternatives for high voltage filtering, snubber and resonator circuits. The SV Series of high voltage radial leaded capacitors is designed specifically for applications that require capacitors with high voltage, low leakage current, and low equivalent series resistance (ESR) in a small package.

For comparatively lower-voltage circuits the SK Series has enjoyed great success due to its low cost, high reliability and compatibility with high volume insertion equipment. Further, the SV Series features an internal design that minimizes the elctrical stress and partial disharge activity within the dielectric, resulting in an ultra-reliable device for high voltage circuits.

The SK Series capacitors are rated from 25 to 500 VDC in C0G and X7R dielectrics with capacitance values from 1000pF to 33uF. Also offered is a Z5U dielectric in 25 to 200 VDC ratings. Cap range for the Z5U dielectric is .10uF to 120uF. Typical ESR for the SK Series is in the milliohm range at 1 MHz.

The SV Series capacitors are rated from 1000 to 5000 VDC in C0G and X7R dielectrics with capacitance values up to 2.2uF. Typical ESR for the SV Series is tens of milliohms at 1 MHz.

The SK Series devices feature high RMS and surge current capabilities and a wide operating temperature range (-55oC to +125oC for C0G (NP0) and X7R and +10oC to +85oC for Z5U). Other applications include input/output filtering in automotive power supplies, EMI/RFI reduction devices, decoupling, energy disharge, surge protection and snubber or resonant circuits.

Applications for the SV Series include snubber capacitors in high frequency converters, resonators in switchmode power supplies, and high voltage decoupling/DC blocking circuits. Because they operate at high voltage, they are safeguarded against transients when used as input resonators.
