Elan Digital Systems Ltd.nounced support for Windows 2000 with their Memory Card Explorer (MCE) software for copying data to and from PCMCIA memory cards, such as linear flash, SRAM and ATA. The MCE software allows the binary "image" of the card data to be saved to, edited or loaded from the hard disk in both desktop and laptop PCs. MCE bypasses all formats and any filing structures on the PC Card, and will read and copy on a direct byte-by-byte arrangement. It is particularly useful for professional developers and for creating exact image copies of card data.

MCE is hardware independent and will run with all PCMCIA standard slots in desktop and laptop PCs.

Also included is a card viewer that allows direct hex display of the data. For OEM applications, the main control panel can be customised to show Company name, website logo etc. For Windows code developers, the DLL "engine" of MCE can be separately licensed for embedding into bespoke applications.

For standard desktop PCs with PCI slots, Elan offers card Read/Write drive units for internal or external mounting. The patent pending design ensures that all I/O cards can also be used without needing an ISA slot for IRQs. Elan also provides a wide range of special interface PC Cards, card peripherals and software, and offer design services for new PC Cards which are custom designed to supplied specifications in small quantities.
