Data General's TermServer-in-a-Box

Data General Corporation claims they are the first major computer supplier to offer a highly available, single-rackmounted enterprise packaged solution for Citrix Systems, Inc.'s WinFrame thin-client/server system software.

With TermServer-in-a-Box high availability in file, print and database services as well as in application services are provided, using Data General AViiON high-density servers and CLARiiON disk-array storage technology.

TermServer-In-A-Box with Citrix WinFrame thin-client/server software enables Windows-based applications to reside and execute on an AViiON server. This architecture enables users to run the latest Windows programs at LAN speeds, even over a dial-up connection. Devices ranging from Windows PCs to UNIX and Macintosh clients and handheld devices can run these corporate applications.

TermServer-In-A-Box Product Background

File, print and database services are provided by two single-processor AViiON High Density Servers (HDS) running Microsoft Cluster Server, coupled with a ten-slot CLARiiON disk array. Application services are delivered via dual-Intel Pentium Pro processor based High Density Servers, which incorporate Citrix WinFrame thin-client/server system software.

The 73-inch high TermServer-In-A-Box rackmounted system can hold up to seven AViiON High Density Servers, each capable of supporting up to 50 users. Additional racks, each capable of housing up to 11 servers, can be added to accommodate thousands of users.

Application services are guaranteed throughout with an N+1 architecture. The entire rackmounted configuration is monitored and maintained with NuView's ManageX software.

In addition, TermServer-in-a-Box supports Microsoft Windows-based Terminal Server (formerly named ``Hydra'') and Citrix's pICAsso project.

Based in Westboro, Massachusetts, Data General, provides servers, storage systems and related software and services.
