Sipex CorporationU electroluminescent lamp driver features a four-level, software-selectable light intensity function. The intensity select function can be utilized in backlighting displays for cellular telephones, PDAs and other hand-held, CPU-controlled equipment to offer added capability to product end-users and extend battery lifetime. The driver reduces backlighting system component count and board space requirements as it is offered in a 10-pin MSOP package and requires two external components for operation: a coil and a capacitor. The driver's enable and light intensity select functions are controlled through the use of a single logic input pin that is easily adapted to interface for simple control via power management or other similar type devices. The driver contains a DC-AC inverter that produces an AC output up to 220V_pk-pk from a +2.3 to +4.5-V input voltage and features a low power shutdown mode that typically draws 100 nA of current.
