Gigabit Transformer Modules
Pulse announced today two new smaller 1000Base-T (Gigabit) magnetic modules (H5008/H5009). The width of these modules allows them to fit directly behind a standard RJ-45 connector. These new modules will require less area on the board layout and provide better electrical performance due to the shorter distance to the RJ-45 connectors. The design provides voltage isolation for user safety and impedance matching for maximum power transfer.
The H5008 and H5009 modules are designed for routers, switches, repeaters, servers and network interface cards (NICs) operating over traditional copper-based networks. Bandwidth of one Gigabit (one billion bits per second) supports the high-speed transfer of data for high-resolution graphics, video, scientific modeling, Internet/Intranet, publications and data back-up.
Technical Information: "These modules are backward compatible with existing 10/100 Ethernet applications and are compliant with the IEEE 802.3ab standards," stated Keith Luke, LAN Senior Product Manager for Pulse. Both the H5008 and H5009 are single-port modules designed to transmit and receive 1000 Megabits per second over 4 pairs of Category 5 UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cable. The H5008 configuration consists of an isolation transformer with a 1CT: 1CT (CT= center tap) turns ratio and a common mode choke on the media side plus a shunt choke for improved common mode suppression per channel. The H5009 includes the same transformer/choke combination per channel, without the shunt choke. These products are fabricated in a 24-pin, open-header package specified for convection and infrared reflow solder temperatures up to 235 degrees C.
Pricing and Availability: Pulse's new Gigabit transformer modules are currently available in tube(s) or Tape & Reel packaging and are compatible with most high-speed pick-and-place assembly equipment.
