These products provide efficient single-chip, ping-pong, LED solutions for the lower data rates of RS-232, ISDN and X.21 over the extended reach of fiber optic cables.

ACS101A
Fiber Optic Modem IC - 44-pin PLCC

The ACS101A is a complete fiber optic modem (FOM) or transceiver (controller, driver and receiver) IC for use in ISDN, X.21 or other serial, synchronous communications applications requiring the extended range, reliability and/or security afforded by fiber optic cabling. This FOM supports full-duplex synchronous communications at data rates from DC to 512Kbps over distances up to 5Km - using single glass fiber (SMF or MMF) cabling. Proprietary Ping-Pong architecture enables full duplex without expensive WDM devices - using instead Ping-Pong type LEDs (PPLED) or Laser duplex devices (LDD). Additionally, hooks are provided to support any other simple, non-fiber serial media. For multi-channel applications, use the 3-channel ACS103 - which replicates ACS101 functionality across three channels. (123k, 29 Oct 99)

ACS102A
Fiber Optic Modem IC - 44-pin TQPF or 44-pin PLCC

The ACS102A is a complete fiber optic modem (FOM) or transceiver (controller, driver and receiver) IC for use in RS-232 or other serial, asynchronous communications applications requiring the extended range, reliability and/or security afforded by fiber optic cabling. This FOM supports full-duplex asynchronous communications at data rates from DC to 162Kbps over distances up to 25Km - using single or twin, plastic (POF) or glass fiber (SMF or MMF) cabling. For single fiber, the proprietary Ping-Pong architecture enables full duplex without expensive WDM devices - using instead Ping-Pong type LEDs (PPLED) or Laser duplex devices (LDD). For twin fiber, the device directly drives standard LEDs, and interfaces to standard PIN receivers. Additionally, hooks are provided to support any other simple, non-fiber serial media. This FOM is optimized for very low power consumption of only 2 -3mA at RS-232 data rates including power provided to the LED and heartbeat monitor. The device employs data compression and time compression techniques, affording high launch power in short bursts, leading to a low average power consumption. The device may be line powered. The "A" revision adds two options: improved sensitivity through a differential input; and TIA bypass (when using an optics module that already includes the TIA). (148k, 15 Sep 00)

The ACS103 is a complete fiber optic modem (FOM) or transceiver (controller, driver and receiver) IC for use in ISDN, X.21 or other serial, synchronous communications applications requiring the extended range, reliability and/or security afforded by fiber optic cabling. This FOM supports full-duplex synchronous communications at data rates from DC to 256Kbps over distances up to 5Km - using single glass fiber (SMF or MMF) cabling. Proprietary Ping-Pong architecture enables full duplex without expensive WDM devices - using instead Ping-Pong type LEDs (PPLED) or Laser duplex devices (LDD). Additionally, hooks are provided to support any other simple, non-fiber serial media. The ACS103 replicates ACS101 functionality across three channels (uses a higher pin-count package than the single-channel modems). (47k, 29 Dec 98)

The ACS104A is a complete fiber optic modem (FOM) or transceiver (controller, driver and receiver) IC for use in RS-232 or other serial, asynchronous communications applications requiring the extended range, reliability and/or security afforded by fiber optic cabling. This FOM supports full-duplex asynchronous communications at data rates from DC to 162Kbps over distances up to 5Km 2-5Km ONLY - using twin plastic (POF) or glass fiber (MMF) cabling. The device directly drives standard LEDs, and interfaces to standard PIN receivers. Additionally, hooks are provided to support any other simple, non-fiber serial media. This FOM is optimized for very low power consumption of only 2 -3mA at RS-232 data rates including power provided to the LED and heartbeat monitor. The device employs data compression and time compression techniques, affording high launch power in short bursts, leading to a low average power consumption. The device may be line powered. ACS401
Fiber Optic Modem IC - 68-pin PLCC

The ACS401is a complete fiber optic modem (FOM) or transceiver (controller, driver and receiver) IC for use in ISDN, Talksets or other serial, synchronous communications applications requiring the extended range, reliability and/or security afforded by fiber optic cabling. This FOM supports up to four channels of full-duplex synchronous communications at data rates from DC to 128Kbps over distances up to 95Km - using single or twin, glass fiber (SMF or MMF) cabling. For single fiber, the proprietary Ping-Pong architecture enables full duplex without expensive WDM devices - using instead Ping-Pong type LEDs (PPLED) or Laser duplex devices (LDD). For twin fiber, the device directly drives standard LEDs, and interfaces to standard PIN receivers. Additionally, hooks are provided to support any other simple, non-fiber serial media. The ACS401 can be configured as four 32Kbps channels, two 64Kbps, or as a single 128Kbps pipe. (89k, 15 Aug 98)
