San Diego, CA -- Maxwell Technologies announced today that it has sold its military microelectronics analog-to-digital converter product line to Austin, Texas-based XTREME Semiconductor, a manufacturer of high-reliability microelectronics for the military, aerospace, and space markets. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Robert Tressler, Maxwell's VP of sales and marketing, described the transition of the company's line of military qualified 12, 14, and 16-bit A/D converter products to XTREME as "mutually beneficial."

"XTREME will continue to support this product line for Maxwell's existing military customers, allowing our microelectronics group to focus on our core commercial radiation-mitigated memory and power module product lines and single board computers for space," Tressler said.

XTREME Senior Partners Marty Lanning and Paul Hilfer said that the acquisition marks the company's entry into the high-reliability military and aerospace semiconductor market. They said that their company will work closely with Defense Supply Center - Columbus (DSCC) to qualify XTREME Semiconductor's design, manufacturing and other operational processes to meet demanding military specifications (MIL-PRF-38535) for quality and reliability, and satisfy the requirements for inclusion on the Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML).
