MegaAVR 8-BIT MCU Family
Atmel Corporation announces its MegaAVR family of 8-bit, system-on-a-chip microcontroller for complex embedded control applications. MegaAVR microcontrollers (MCUs) feature substantial in-system programmable Flash memory densities, large on-chip data EEPROM and SRAM memories. There are two megaAVR family members being introduced: the ATmega103 and the ATmega603. The ATmega103 is the world's first 8-bit MCU to offer 1 Mbit (128K bytes) of in-system programmable Flash memory, 4 Kbytes of in-system programmable EEPROM data memory, 4 Kbytes of SRAM, a true 10-bit, 8-channel analog to digital converter (ADC), a full-duplex UART, a watchdog timer, a real-time clock with separate oscillator and three timers/counters with separate prescaler packaged in a space saving 64-pin TQFP package. This package allows forty-eight user programmable inputs/outputs.
The megaAVR is a two address machine with a two stage pipeline and thirty-two 8-bit working registers that provides single clock cycle instruction execution for most instructions, which translates into 1MIP per megahertz.
