Power-Factor Correction Chips

Power-Factor Correction Chips
Type UCC3817 and UCC3818 power-factor (PF) regulator ICs let you comply with IEC1000-3-2 harmonic reduction requirements for off-line power supplies
N/A7 and UCC3818 power-factor (PF) regulator ICs let you comply with IEC1000-3-2 harmonic reduction requirements for off-line power supplies ranging from 75 W to 1 kW in size that operate over an 85 V to 270 V range. Using an average current-mode boost architecture, ICs achieve near unity PF by shaping ac input line-current waveforms to correspond to those of ac input line voltages. Limiting line distortion, these BiCMOS chips tout low start-up current, and include over-voltage protection circuits.

Operable from 12 V through 17 V, ICs operate in a feed-forward mode. Devices require 150 uA (typ.) start-up current. The UCC1817 offers an on-chip shunt regulator and is for applications needing a bootstrap supply. The UCC1818 is intended for applications with a fixed Vcc supply. Chips are available in 16-pin and 20-pin packages.
