A radio chipset is available for wireless local area networks (WLAN) and other digital communication products
Micro Linear Corp.pset is available for wireless local area networks (WLAN) and other digital communication products. The radio chipset consists of the ML2712 2.4-GHz radio-frequency (RF) transceiver and the ML2713 radio intermediate-frequency (IF) transceiver. A third device, the ML2731 PA-bias controller, is also available. Together the ML2712 and ML2713 chipset provides a complete radio transceiver requiring minimal external components for WLANs and other digital wireless communications products using frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transmissions in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Medical, and Scientific (ISM) frequency band.

This chipset is suited for application in WLAN products intended to be compliant with the IEEE802.11 FHSS specification and requiring support for both 1-Mbps and 2-Mbps over-the-air data rates. The chipset is aimed primarily at manufacturers of IEEE802.11 WLAN network interface cards for use in personal computers, hand-held devices, peripherals, and access point boxes networked together in home, industrial, or SOHO environments. The radio chipset can also be used in WLANs compliant with the emerging HomeRF specification for high data rate, wireless networks in the home.

The radio chipset is highly integrated incorporating many filters on-chip and minimizing external chip count. Each provide a flexible interface to a baseband processor allowing the radio to be configured in many different applications. Mode control, PLL frequency selection and lock condition, and received signal strength indicator are some of the programmable functions.
