Standard Microsystems Introduces New ICs In Taiwan
Reinforcing its presence in the Taiwan market, Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMSC) has announced several new integrated circuits. Included among the new products are: a complete line of PC I/O (input/output) devices supporting the Low Pin Count (LPC) bus, the first PCI 2.1 compatible PCI-to-ISA Bridge, the TeXas Systems Logic chipset, and a Media Access Controller (MAC) for Fast Ethernet, optimized for PCMCIA applications.
The four new LPC I/O circuits, developed to support advanced generations of chipset technology, are the LPC47B27x, LPC47U33x, LPC47B34x and the LPC47B37x. All four devices contain PC'99-compatible Super I/O functionality (Serial Ports, Parallel Port, Floppy Disk Controller, 8042 Keyboard Controller, and Power Management Event Support). Each device is appropriate for a particular PC market segment. The LPC47B34x and LPC47B37x have been designed for use in commercial PC applications. The LPC47U33x is targeted for consumer PC applications. The LPC47B27x provides a combination of features useful for PCs intended to be sold for either commercial or consumer applications. SMSC's LPC Bus has been verified and validated to comply with the Low Pin Count Bus specification.
SMSC's PCI-to-ISA bridge, the SLC88B17, is the first such device that is PCI 2.1 compatible. Packaged in a 160-pin QFP, the SLC88B17 is intended for use in LPC-based PC motherboards where ISA slot support is required. The PCI-to-ISA Bridge can also be utilized in notebook PC docking station applications.
The TeXas chipset, designed to support Pentium-class microprocessors, is the first in a broad line of planned Systems Logic products. SMSC is offering its Systems Logic products both as chipsets and as discrete devices. This strategy provides the highest degree of flexibility for SMSC's customers, enabling them to mix and match Systems Logic functionality according to their specific system requirements. The TeXas chipset is composed of two 324-pin BGA packages, comprising a NorthBridge (SLC90E42) and a SouthBridge (SLC90E46).
The newest member of SMSC's Ethernet product line, the LAN91C110, is the company's second generation FEAST Fast Ethernet MAC. It has been optimized for use in 16-bit system applications. The FEAST family of Fast Ethernet controllers is the industry's leading family of Fast Ethernet controllers targeted to non-PCI solutions.
The LAN91C110, provided in a 144-pin VTQFP package, enables 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN+Modem solutions for 16-bit PCMCIA PC Cards. The generic nature of the FEAST system interface also makes it suitable for embedded applications based on non-PC architectures, including the rapidly growing hand-held PC market.
