T1/E1 Module Developed Jointly with Level One
Pulse announced today it has jointly developed a high-density, low-profile, surface-mount module for T1/E1 applications with Level One Communications, an Intel company. The transformer module with over-voltage protection (part number T9030) will interface with Level One's LXT384, Octal T1/E1 LIUs (Line Interface Unit).
The Pulse/Level One solution will provide surge protection within telecom access and transmission equipment. The T9030 module integrates eight sidactors for primary protection, eight common mode chokes for electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering and eight transformers for equipment isolation functions to comply with the latest American and European Telecom standards for T1/E1 short haul applications. This module is the industry's highest level of front-end physical layer interface in the TNV (Telecom Network Voltages) network. For every eight T1/E1 ports, 50%, or 4.65 square inches, of printed circuit board space is saved as compared with existing discrete solutions and Quad T1/E1 LIUs.
"For central office-based, high-bandwidth equipment designs, this Level One/Pulse solution results in one board instead of the two or three needed today," said Mukesh Mehta, telecom product line manager for Pulse. "This radical approach also significantly reduces circuit traces length between components and therefore improves the EMI performance of the system."
"Pulse's design prominence in our industry was a perfect complement to our own design expertise and a key factor in our decision to jointly develop this module," said Mike Ricci, vice president, Telecommunications Business Unit, Level One. "The compact module will free up valuable board space due to it's leading-edge engineering. In addition, it was successfully evaluated to meet international transmission standards." Available to engineers will be a reference design certified by Telcordia (formerly Bellcore) and a design assistant software package featuring Level One's LXT384 Octal T1/E1 LIU and Pulse's T9030 module.
Pulse's T9030 module has also been successfully evaluated for use with Level One's LXT380, LT381 and LXT386 LIUs. The module is currently available in tube or Tape & Reel packaging, and is compatible with most high-speed Pick & Place equipment. Details are listed in data sheet T656.
